In Southwest Florida’s climate, a pool is not a seasonal luxury; it is a year-round fixture. But not every property has the space or budget for a large traditional pool, and that is where a custom plunge pool changes the equation. Deeper than a standard pool but far more compact, it delivers the immersive cool-down you are after in a fraction of the footprint. We have been building custom plunge pools across Lee, Collier, Charlotte, and Sarasota Counties since 2017, backed by more than 10 years of hands-on pool construction experience.

  • Space-smart design that maximizes impact in compact yards, courtyards, and side lots
  • Gunite construction for full design flexibility, superior depth options, and long-term durability
  • High-efficiency Pentair pumps, filtration, and automation, right-sized for plunge pool performance
  • Premium finishes: Florida Stucco, StoneScapes, and NPT
  • Licensed (CPC1459515), insured, and an active FSPA member
  • Family owned since 2017, 10+ years of hands-on experience and local accountability
  • Flexible pool financing options through Lyon Financial, HFS, and Viking

Why Gunite for a Small Pool

A small pool is where a fixed shape hurts most, because the shell has to fit the space you actually have. Gunite is sprayed and pneumatically finished on site, so depth, benches, the tanning ledge, and the spa wall all get tailored directly to your yard’s dimensions. Finishes include Florida Stucco, StoneScapes, or NPT pebble.

Plunge Pool with a Spillover Spa

The most common version we build in Southwest Florida is a plunge pool with an integrated spillover spa on one end: one continuous shell, one equipment pad, hot water in winter, and cool water in August. It costs significantly less than building a separate full-size pool and spa, while taking up a fraction of the yard footprint.

Cool Down, or Cold Plunge?

Two very different jobs. A standard plunge pool in Southwest Florida spends most of the year as relief from the heat, and our pool water rarely gets cold on its own. If you want genuine cold plunge temperatures (45°–55°F) for athletic recovery, that requires a dedicated inline pool chiller specified during engineering, not retrofitted later.

How We Design and Build Your Custom Plunge Pool in Fort Myers

A&E Pools website screenshot showing pool construction services

Every project starts with a detailed conversation about your space and goals. Plunge pools come in many shapes, depths, and configurations, and the right design depends on your lot dimensions, intended use (cooling, therapy, relaxation, or all three), and the look you want. After your consultation, our team develops a detailed 3D Pool Design mapping the exact footprint, depth profile, finishes, and equipment placement before a single tool touches your yard. Once approved, we handle all Pool Permits & Planning with your county.

Construction begins with precision excavation. Because plunge pools are deeper relative to their surface area than standard pools, the excavation and structural phases matter even more, and our crew treats them with the same care as any full-size build. Gunite goes on under high pressure over a reinforced steel framework, followed by plumbing, electrical, and Pentair equipment, then your chosen finish, tile, coping, and decking. Exploring larger builds too? Our Custom Gunite Pools page covers the full range of shapes and sizes.

We build custom plunge pools across Lee County (Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Fort Myers Beach, Estero, Bonita Springs, Bonita Beach, Sanibel Island), Collier County (Naples), Charlotte County (Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Babcock Ranch), and Sarasota County (North Port). From narrow side yards to compact courtyards, we will tell you honestly during your consultation whether a plunge pool is the right fit, and you can see finished compact builds in our pool construction gallery.

Plunge pools are the popular pick for a premium outdoor experience without full-size space or cost. They are not the only compact option though: for fitness swimming look at Lap Pools, and for a dramatic statement on an elevated lot see Infinity Edge Pools. Will a Plunge Pool Fit Your Lot?

The honest answer is usually yes, and the question is where. Screened lanais, courtyards, side yards, and the narrow strip between a pool cage and a lot setback line can all accommodate a plunge pool when a full-size pool will not fit. What decides the project is not square footage, but access: we need a clear route for excavation equipment and a staging area for soil removal. We evaluate access during your on-site consultation before discussing shapes.

What It Costs and How Long It Takes

Because every custom gunite plunge pool is engineered specifically for your property, overall investment is driven by site access, shell depth, spa additions, deck surface area, and screen enclosure requirements. During your free on-site design consultation, A&E Pools provides a transparent, fixed-price proposal and a realistic construction timeline from Lee County permitting through to your first swim.

Outstanding experience with A & E Pools! I couldn’t be happier with the work A & E Pools did on my pool. From the beginning of the project all the way through the finishing touches, they were professional, knowledgeable, responsive, and genuinely committed to making sure everything was done right. A pool project is a major investment, and there are a lot of details that have to come together. A & E Pools handled the process extremely well. The workmanship was excellent, and they paid close attention to the details that really make a difference in the finished product. The finished pool looks absolutely beautiful and has exceeded my expectations. The quality of the pool finish and the overall craftsmanship really stand out. They also did a great job communicating throughout the process and addressing any questions or concerns along the way. What impressed me most was that they didn’t just disappear once the work was completed. They continued to make sure everything was right and that I was completely satisfied with the result. That kind of customer service is becoming harder and harder to find. I highly recommend A & E Pools to anyone considering building or renovating a pool. They delivered a beautiful finished product and provided the level of professionalism and service you hope for when making such a significant investment. Five stars all the way! I’m extremely happy with my new pool and would absolutely recommend A & E Pools to anyone looking for a pool company.

I am extremely happy with A & E Pools! I had quotes from several other companies and A & E was the most fair. Ely was honest about what features would be beneficial and Cost-effective. I had a lot of other projects that I wanted completed such as closing in one of the lanai walls for an outdoor kitchen and the plumbing and electric for the outdoor kitchen and I thought I was going to have to hire A general contractor Be the general contractor for electricians plumbers, etc. but Ely’s crew was able to complete all of it While the pool was being built. Our backyard is absolutely beautiful. We couldn’t be happier. I loved working with Ely She was super helpful and professional throughout the process. Thank you!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

A plunge pool is a small, deep pool designed for immersive cooling, relaxation, and hydrotherapy rather than laps or games. It has a much smaller surface footprint than a standard pool but is typically deeper, so you get full-body submersion without a large yard. It is the right choice for limited outdoor space and for homeowners who want the daily benefits of a pool without the scale of a traditional build.

Plunge pools work in surprisingly compact spaces. Many designs fit areas as small as 10 by 10 feet, and 8 by 12 or 10 by 14 feet are common residential footprints. The right size depends on your yard, how you plan to use the pool, and local setback requirements. We evaluate your lot during a free consultation and develop a 3D design tailored to your space.

Generally less than a full-size pool: less excavation, fewer materials, and smaller equipment usually mean a lower overall project cost. The final price depends on design complexity, depth, features like hydrotherapy jets or lighting, and your chosen finish. We provide clear, itemized quotes after your design consultation so there are no surprises, and financing is available through Lyon Financial, HFS, and Viking.

Absolutely. Many of our clients add Pentair-compatible pool heating systems and hydrotherapy jets, turning the pool into a cold plunge, hot soak, or therapeutic feature depending on the season and their wellness goals. These options are planned into the design phase so they are built in from the start, never retrofitted later.

Yes. All new pool construction in Florida requires a building permit, and requirements vary across Lee, Collier, Charlotte, and Sarasota Counties. We manage the entire process, from engineering plan submission to county inspections and final approval, so you never navigate a form or county office on your own.

Yes, and we strongly recommend it. Our 3D design process renders your plunge pool with exact dimensions, finish, coping, decking, and the surrounding space before construction begins, so you can refine the design and feel fully confident before we break ground. You can also visit our showroom to compare Florida Stucco, StoneScapes, and NPT samples in person.
