Fort Myers' Trusted Lap Pool Builder: Family-Owned, Precision-Built, Performance-Ready
A&E Pools designs and builds custom lap pools throughout Fort Myers and Southwest Florida: sleek, purpose-built swim lanes for fitness, therapy, and daily exercise. As part of our New Pool Construction services, every lap pool is engineered to your property’s dimensions and your performance goals, from a compact backyard lap pool in Cape Coral to a full-length competition-style build in Bonita Springs.
A lap pool is not just a smaller swimming pool; it is a purpose-designed aquatic training tool. Length, width, depth, hydraulic flow, and finish all affect how the pool performs. We have been building custom lap pools across Lee, Collier, Charlotte, and Sarasota Counties since 2017, backed by more than 10 years of hands-on pool construction experience, and we understand what makes a lap pool truly functional, not just good-looking.
Every project starts with how you plan to use it: training distances, stroke type, therapy needs, lot space, and aesthetics all factor in. Our team develops a detailed 3D Pool Design mapping exact dimensions, features, equipment placement, and finishes, so you see everything, including how the pool integrates with your outdoor living space, before we break ground. Once approved, we manage all Pool Permits & Planning with your county.
Construction follows a precise sequence: exact excavation, steel rebar framework, high-pressure gunite application, and full cure time before finishing. Because lap pools demand consistent hydraulic performance along their entire length, the plumbing and equipment phase gets extra attention, with Pentair systems configured for even water distribution and efficient turnover. Your chosen finish, tile, coping, and decking complete the build. Comparing pool types? Our Custom Gunite Pools page covers the full range, and Infinity Edge Pools is worth exploring for an elevated aesthetic.
We build custom lap pools across Lee County (Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Fort Myers Beach, Estero, Bonita Springs, Bonita Beach, Sanibel Island), Collier County (Naples), Charlotte County (Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Babcock Ranch), and Sarasota County (North Port). See finished builds in our pool construction gallery.
Not sure whether a lap pool is right for your space and goals? For compact or courtyard settings, Plunge Pools may fit better, and our New Pool Construction overview is the place to start if you want to weigh everything. Visit our showroom to compare finish samples in person before you commit.
A functional residential lap pool typically runs 40 to 75 feet long and 8 to 10 feet wide, though the right dimensions depend on your lot and how you intend to use the pool. For pure freestyle laps, longer is better; for water walking, aquatic therapy, or general fitness, a shorter pool works well with the right design. We design every lap pool around your specific lot measurements and goals, and the 3D design process lets you see the layout before construction begins.
Not necessarily more. Lap pools are longer and narrower than typical recreational pools, which can reduce excavation and concrete costs compared to a wider freeform design. The total depends on length, depth, features like swim jets or underwater lighting, and your interior finish. We provide clear, itemized quotes after your design consultation, and financing is available through Lyon Financial, HFS, and Viking.
Yes. Many clients choose a hybrid design: a dedicated swim lane on one end and a wider or shallower leisure area on the other. We can also integrate a tanning ledge, bench seating, or a small spillover spa. During your consultation and 3D design session we work out a layout that balances athletic function with everyday enjoyment.
Yes. For clients who want to swim against a current, or who have limited yard space for a full-length pool, we incorporate counter-current swim jet systems into the build. These Pentair-compatible systems simulate open-water swimming in a shorter footprint. Ask about swim jet options during your consultation.
Absolutely. All new pool construction in Florida requires a building permit, and requirements vary by county. We manage the entire process across Lee, Collier, Charlotte, and Sarasota Counties, including engineering plans, inspections, and final approvals. You will not deal with a single permit form.
A lap pool is built for swimming and fitness: long, narrow, and optimized for continuous movement through the water. A plunge pool is much shorter and deeper, built for cooling off, relaxation, or hydrotherapy rather than laps. Both are excellent options depending on your goals and space, and we will help you choose during a free consultation.
